As someone who is always looking to improve my technology skills, I decided to take on a new project: building a home server. I wanted a server that would allow me to host my own websites, run virtual machines, and store my data. That’s when I discovered Proxmox, an open-source virtualisation platform that allows you to run multiple virtual machines on a single server.

I chose to use Proxmox as the base for my home server because it is a powerful and flexible platform that can handle a variety of tasks. It also has a great community and a wealth of resources available to help me with my project.

The first step in building my home server was to purchase the necessary hardware. I chose a powerful Intel Xeon processor and a motherboard with support for virtualization. I also added a large amount of RAM and storage space to ensure that the server could handle multiple virtual machines.

After assembling the hardware, I installed Proxmox on the server and set it up. I then created a virtual machine and installed the Linux operating system on it. This virtual machine would serve as the base for all my other virtual machines.

Next, I created a new virtual machine and installed WordPress on it. WordPress is a popular content management system that allows you to easily create and manage websites. I chose to use it because it is user-friendly and has a large community of developers who create themes and plugins that can be used to enhance the functionality of a website.

I then configured the virtual machine to run WordPress, including setting up the database, configuring the web server, and installing the necessary plugins. With the WordPress virtual machine set up, I was able to create and host my own website using the Proxmox home server.

In addition to hosting my own website, I also use the server to run virtual machines for other projects. For example, I have a virtual machine running Plex media server, allowing me to stream my media library to any device with the Plex app installed.

Building a home server with Proxmox and WordPress has been a great learning experience. It has allowed me to improve my technology skills and has given me the ability to host my own websites and run virtual machines from the comfort of my own home.
